All new facilitators are required to take the Group Facilitation training program in addition to completing training on the specific course(s) they will be administering (e.g. BIPPS, CVA, etc.). This course is also open for any previously trained facilitators that might want a refresher. The training objectives are to explore what makes a good facilitator, learn the basics to group facilitation, discuss learning styles, stages of group development, stages of individual change, and choosing and processing activities.

This course is administered by Psi-Med instructors. Upon successful completion of this course staff will be recertified as a facilitator of the Batterers Intervention Prevention Program (BIPPS) for their facility. The BIPPS program is designed to assist in the rehabilitation of incarcerated domestic violence perpetrators. The goal of the program is to positively impact society and decrease the occurrences of domestic violence of all forms directed toward victims.

Staff must have successfully completed the Training for Trainers course prior to attending this course. Upon successful completion of this course, staff will be certified as a First Aid/CPR instructor for the WVDOC.

This course will help participants develop the preparation, presentation and platform delivery skills needed to conduct training using established curricula. Focus areas include the needs and characteristics of adult learners, learning styles, the role of the correctional trainer, managing a learner-centered training environment, asking and responding to questions, facilitating lesson plans, teaching to performance objectives and basic teaching methods.
