This course will help participants develop the preparation, presentation and platform delivery skills needed to conduct training using established curricula. Focus areas include the needs and characteristics of adult learners, learning styles, the role of the correctional trainer, managing a learner-centered training environment, asking and responding to questions, facilitating lesson plans, teaching to performance objectives and basic teaching methods.

All new facilitators are required to take the Group Facilitation training program in addition to completing training on the specific course(s) they will be administering (e.g. BIPPS, CVA, etc.). This course is also open for any previously trained facilitators that might want a refresher. The training objectives are to explore what makes a good facilitator, learn the basics to group facilitation, discuss learning styles, stages of group development, stages of individual change, and choosing and processing activities.

Upon successful completion of this course, and the Group Facilitation Course, which is taught separately, staff will be certified as a facilitator of the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Substance Abuse (CBI-SA) curriculum. CBI-SA is a substance abuse intervention program which relies on the cognitive-behavioral approach to teach participants strategies for avoiding substance abuse.
