Upon successful completion of this course, and the Group Facilitation Course, which is taught separately, staff will be certified as a facilitator of the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Substance Abuse (CBI-SA) curriculum. CBI-SA is a substance abuse intervention program which relies on the cognitive-behavioral approach to teach participants strategies for avoiding substance abuse.

All new facilitators are required to take the Group Facilitation training program in addition to completing training on the specific course(s) they will be administering (e.g. BIPPS, CVA, etc.). This course is also open for any previously trained facilitators that might want a refresher. The training objectives are to explore what makes a good facilitator, learn the basics to group facilitation, discuss learning styles, stages of group development, stages of individual change, and choosing and processing activities.

This course is administered by Psi-Med instructors. Upon successful completion of this course and the Group Facilitation Course, which is taught separately, staff will be certified as a facilitator of the Crime Victim Awareness (CVA) program for their facility. The CVA course will educate, challenge beliefs and assist the rehabilitation of incarcerated offenders. The goal of the program is to decrease criminal victimization by enhancing the offenders’ ability to feel compassion and empathy toward all members of society.
